Recently, with the support of the National Key R&D Program, China's deep-sea robotics research team published the latest research results on "High-precision Autonomous Navigation for Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUV) in Deep-Sea Complex Environments" in the Journal of Unmanned Systems. This research addresses technical challenges such as deep-sea path effects and acoustic information loss by proposing a new navigation algorithm based on multi-source information fusion and reinforcement learning.

CORE TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION: HETEROGENEOUS SENSOR
FUSION WITH DYNAMIC WEIGHTS

Traditional Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) generate cumulative errors over time, and satellite signals are unavailable in deep-sea environments. The fusion framework designed by the research team introduces a dynamic weight mechanism that can evaluate the reliability of Doppler Velocity Logs (DVL), pressure sensors, and acoustic ultra-short baseline positioning systems in real-time.

Experimental data shows that in a 72-hour continuous underwater simulation test, the new algorithm reduced positioning drift error by more than 45%. This progress means that UUVs can achieve a higher degree of "decentralized" autonomous operation without real-time assistance from a surface support mother ship when performing tasks such as large-area seabed topographic mapping and subsea cable inspection.

FUTURE APPLICATION PROSPECTS

The successful development of this algorithm not only lays a theoretical foundation for the subsequent development of 10,000-meter-class deep-sea submersibles but also provides strong technical support for the green development of marine resources and the maintenance of maritime sovereignty. The research team stated that the next step will be to explore the application performance of this algorithm in multi-UUV swarm collaborative operations.
